Amiens

The Gothic cathedral Notre Dame d’Amiens is central to the medieval portion of the curriculum. Professor Emeritus Stephen Murray dedicated his career to studying and documenting the monumental thirteenth-century cathedral, as well as other medieval buildings and materials, through the Mapping Gothic project. As a result of the Media Center for Art History’s extensive panoramic image collection and commitment to new educational technology, Art Humanities students have the unique opportunity to explore Amiens Cathedral through world-class virtual tours. Additionally, Art Humanities classes frequently visit the historic Cathedral of St. John the Divine nearby, linking the material they learn to the topography of 21stcentury Manhattan.
